    El recien nacido con dolor: el papel del equipo de enfermeria

    It's a quantitative, descriptive and cross study conducted with the nurse team working in the field of neonatology at the three hospitals, Alfenas-MG. Aimed to describe the forms of pain assessment of the newborn used by nurse team and analyze the practice of nursing as pain management of neonates. Data were collected through a semi-structured formulary, from August to September 2008, of 42 nurses working. The analyze was performed using SPSS software using descriptive statistics and correlation test. It was observed that the respondents recognize that the newborn is capable of feeling pain and evaluated by physiological and behavioral changes and that there isn't pain assessment scales standardized in the institutions. For the management, carry out pharmacological and nonpharmacological interventions. There is need to train professionals contributing to the assessment and management of pain, promoting of holistic care of the neonate.Estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y transversal realizado con profesionales de Enfermería que actúan en el área de Neonatología en los tres hospitales de Alfenas, Minas Gerais. Se objetivó describir las formas de evaluación del dolor del recién nacido utilizados por el personal de enfermería y analizar la práctica de la enfermería como el manejo del dolor del neonato. La recolección de datos fue hecha por medio de un formulario semiestructurado, entre agosto y septiembre de 2008, con 42 profesionales. El análisis fue hecho con el software SPSS, utilizando la estadística descriptiva y la prueba de correlación. Los entrevistados reconocen que el neonato es capaz de sentir dolor y esto se evalúa a través de alteraciones fisiológicas y de comportamiento, no hay utilización de escalas de evaluación del dolor estandarizadas en las instituciones. Para el manejo, realizan intervenciones farmacológicas y no farmacológicas. Hay necesidad de capacitar profesionales contribuyendo para la evaluación y manejo del dolor, para la promoción del cuidado integral al neonato.Estudo quantitativo, descritivo e transversal realizado com profissionais de enfermagem que atuam em neonatologia nos três hospitais de Alfenas-MG. Para o manejo, realizam intervenções farmacológicas e não farmacológicas.     Monitoring Students’ Attention in a Classroom Through Computer Vision

    Monitoring classrooms using cameras is a non-invasive approach of digitizing students’ behaviour. Understanding students’ attention span and what type of behaviours may indicate a lack of attention is fundamental for understanding and consequently improving the dynamics of a lecture. Recent studies show useful information regarding classrooms and their students’ behaviour throughout the lecture. In this paper we start by presenting an overview about the state of the art on this topic, presenting what we consider to be the most robust and efficient Computer Vision techniques for monitoring classrooms. After the analysis of relevant state of the art, we propose an agent that is theoretically capable of tracking the students’ attention and output that data. The main goal of this paper is to contribute to the development of an autonomous agent able to provide information to both teachers and students and we present preliminary results on this topic. We believe this autonomous agent features the best solution for monitoring classrooms since it uses the most suited state of the art approaches for each individual role.Integrated Programme of SR&TD SOCA (Ref.     Aortic valve replacement with different types of prosthesis. Are there differences in the outcomes during hospital phase?

    Objective: To analyze intraoperative data and possible differences in clinical evolution during postoperative hospital phase for aortic valve replacement surgery using different types of prosthesis. Methods: Analysis of 60 patients divided into three groups. Valve replacement with bioprosthesis (20), mechanical prosthesis (20) and homologous valve (20). The mean age was 51.1, 60% were male and 40% female patients; 86.7% were in NYHA II or III; 63.3% presented arterial hypertension and 18.3% had diabetes. Aetiology of valve disease was degenerative for 39%, rheumatic for 36% and endocardits for 15%. Results: The hospital mortality was 5%; there were no differences in the incidence of septical or cardiogenic intensive care, neither for total time in intensive care and mechanical ventilation. However, there was statistical differences as regards the cardiopulmonary bypass total time (P=0.02) and the aortic clamping time (P<0.0001) unfavorable to homograft valve group. The ward admission time was greater for mechanical valve group (P=0.05) as well as for total admission time, but without statistical significance. It was observed that patients with preoperative hematocrit smaller than 38.1% used 2.73 units of blood components, and with postoperative hematocrit smaller than 32% used 1,79 units of blood components. Echocardiography control showed minimal evolutional differences. Conclusion: The use of different types of prosthesis for this study does not cause differences in the results of postoperative hospital phase.
